The Journey Continues.

17 Years. One Mission. A New Chapter.

There is a photograph somewhere in a box in my office. It was taken in 2008 — me at a desk, a yellow notepad full of grant proposals beside me, a dial-up modem humming in the background. I was trying to help a Detroit nonprofit tell their story to funders who were writing checks based on polished presentations and professional photos.

The story never made it through the paperwork. The human part — the late nights, the volunteers, the real impact on real people — got lost somewhere between the mission statement and the budget spreadsheet.

That frustration is what led to MRJ Consulting's birth.

Where We Started

Seventeen years ago, I started MRJ Consulting in Detroit with one belief: authenticity wins. Not polished. Not perfect. Authentic.

What began as grant writing for nonprofits evolved quickly as social media emerged and changed everything. Suddenly, there was a platform where organizations could show the real story behind their work — and funders, clients, and communities could see it in real time. We built systems to help organizations harness that power, and the results were immediate.

Over the years, MRJ Consulting has served clients across nonprofits, healthcare, legal, retail, and political campaigns — helping them grow their digital presence, reach their audiences, and turn online activity into real-world results. Each industry taught us something different about how people connect, how trust is built online, and how a well-told story changes outcomes.

Why We Are Evolving — Not Just Rebranding

Let me be direct about something: this is not a rebrand in the traditional sense. We did not hire an agency to give us new colors and call it a transformation. What you are seeing is the natural evolution of a firm that has been paying attention — closely — to what is happening in the world of marketing, technology, and business.

The world our clients operate in has changed. The way people search for services has changed. The way content is created, distributed, and consumed has changed. And sitting still was never an option.

So we did what we have always done: we adapted, we learned, and we built something better.

Our New Focus: AI Consulting

The single most significant addition to MRJ Consulting's service offering is AI platform consulting — and I want to explain why we added it, and what it actually means for the organizations we serve.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a technology story. It is a business story. And for most small-to-midsize organizations — nonprofits trying to stretch a limited communications budget, healthcare practices navigating patient outreach, legal firms trying to be found online — AI represents the single biggest opportunity to do more with less that has come along in a generation.

But here is the honest reality: most organizations have no idea where to start. The landscape is crowded, the terminology is confusing, and the last thing a busy executive director or practice manager needs is another technology tool that creates more work instead of less.

That is exactly the gap MRJ Consulting is stepping into.

Our AI Readiness Audit is a structured, practical session where we sit down with your organization, assess where you currently stand, and hand you a clear roadmap — specific tools, specific priorities, specific costs — built for your industry and your team. Not a generic checklist. A real strategy.

We cover four areas:

  • Content & Copywriting — AI tools that help you produce more, faster, without losing your voice

  • Social Media & Scheduling — platforms that keep you consistently visible without burning out your staff

  • Search Engine Optimization — how to stay competitive as Google's AI-powered search reshapes discoverability

  • Visual & Video Creation — accessible tools that bring agency-quality content within reach of any budget

This is not about replacing your team or your story. It is about giving you better instruments to tell it.

What Else Is New

Alongside our AI consulting focus, 2026 brings several other meaningful changes to MRJ Consulting.

Our website is currently being rebuilt from the ground up — designed to reflect the full scope of who we are today, not who we were when the original site launched. It will include a cleaner service overview, a blog where we will share real-world insights on digital marketing and AI, and an easier path for new clients to connect with us. We expect the new site to go live in the coming weeks.

Our social media presence is being refreshed across all platforms — Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube — with consistent branding, clearer messaging, and a content strategy built around education and genuine value rather than promotional noise.

And our team is growing. We are welcoming new talent with deep expertise in current digital marketing tools and AI platforms — people who share our belief that the best marketing is honest marketing.

What Is Not Changing

In the middle of all this change, I want to be clear about what stays the same.

The reason we do this work has not changed. We are still here to help organizations tell their truth online. We are still rooted in Detroit, still proud of where we come from, and still committed to the belief that authentic stories create real change.

The clients who trusted us with their nonprofit communications, their healthcare marketing, their legal firm's online presence — that trust is not something we take lightly. It is something we have been building for seventeen years, and it is the foundation that makes everything else possible.

We are not starting over. We are building forward.
